October’s TBR list

Another month, another TBR! That’s right, it’s October! The month of all things scary! While I am a mood reader, I still like to have a TBR for each month. I’m trying something new. I don’t really own any spooky or scary books, so I took a trip to my local library and took out some books perfect for the spooky season!

Discovering new worlds, one page at a time!

The first book on my Tbr is The Turn of the Screw by Henry James. I wanted to read a classic book, but I didn’t want to do what everyone else does and immediately go to Dracula. The Turn of the Screw is a chilling tale of a young governess taking care of two orphans in a remote, haunted estate. Oscar Wilde called this book “a most wonderful, lurid, poisonous little tale”.

The next book is Daughter of Darkness by Katherine and Elizabeth Corr. Deina, a soul severer, is trapped in the underworld. After an unexpected opportunity, she jumps at the chance to make a bid for her freedom. It’s within reach, but what will it take to claim it? As a fan of both fantasy books and Greek mythology, I’m really looking forward to reading this book.

Book three is titled BitterThorn and is written by Kat Dunn. This book is a tale of a lost soul, a darkly alluring witch and a terrifying secret. This sounds like the perfect book to read in October, and I’m very excited to start reading!

The Immortal Games by Annaliese Avery is set in Ancient Greece and tells the tale of 17 year old Ara seeking revenge against the Gods. Every blood moon signifies the beginning of The Immortal Games, an epic set of games played by the Gods of Olypus, with randomly selected humans as their Tokens. Ever since her sister was chosen to compete, Ara has been determined to be selected and get revenge on the gods for allowing her sister to die. And she is. “In the games of life and death, what will Ara sacrifice to win?”.

A Dark Inheritance by H. F. Askwith hooked me from the first few sentences of the blurb. “Once I had four brothers. Three of them are dead. I am next. In thirty days, I will die”. Set in the 1920s, and with that irresistibly interesting blurb, I couldn’t resist picking it up! I am so excited to start reading it!

Number 6 is King of Kings by MJ Porter. The year is AD 925 and in the battle for power, there can be only one ruler. This book sounds so interesting! I also like the fact that it’s set in the 900s, so Anglo – Saxon England. It tells the story of King Aethelstan of England trying to unite the Welsh and the Scots in peace to keep out the Norse, but there are other powerful men who do not wish to be ruled, and will plot their revenge against the English king.

While my TBR is shorter this month, I will still be reading just as much, but it is more manageable for me. I will probably be able to finish my TBR, and still be able to read what I choose.

I hope you’ll join me in reading some scary books during the month of Halloween, but don’t be afraid to keep the lights on! I often do!

Happy reading!
